I am re-reading the book, “The Power of Truth” by William George Jordan. It is amazing to me that someone that has been dead for over 100 years had such a good focus on morality and integrity in what seems to be relevant to modern times. It would do the leaders of our country good to read this book, simply to get back to the basics of how we should treat one another and, well… lead this country. The book can found at The Soul Connectors Store.
Jordan says at one point, “Truth means ‘that which one troweth or believes.’ It is living simply and squarely by our belief; it is the externalizing of faith in a series of actions. Truth is ever strong, courageous, virile, though kindly, gentle, calm, and restful. There is a vital difference between error and untruthfulness. A man may be in error and yet live bravely by it; he who is untruthful in his life knows the truth but denies it. The one who is loyal to what he believes; the other is a traitor to what he knows.”
Stand by the truth and let it be your compass. We are in times that are demanding us to straighten our course. You will know what to do when it comes time to make your next decision in business, relationships and life in general.
It appears people are still failing in their moral guidance — but finding a direction in their faith. Humanity has always walked this two-way path. Your posting is very inspiring to me.
Thanks for offering these thoughts to ponder. It leaves me wondering what potential effect there is in each willing person beginning that process of aligning with truth, establishing integrity, then deliberately operating from that basis. I feel sure it would quickly lead to a critical mass of positive, constructive growth. That would appear at each level, individual, family, community, region, nation, race, world… This has been shown by historical figures modeling the best in their purpose whether spiritual, noble, warrior, artist, farmer, hat maker, ditch digger, junk collector, vagabond, or whatever.
I think it is helpful for it to start at the top of our culture. With the continuous ambiguity in our political system, it is hard for me to get a solid feeling of leadership. So the average person will need to shine the light in their neighborhoods and their workplace to make a difference. One other thing to consider is that there have been many “leaders” in history that have taken entire countries over the edge of a cliff. It is a conundrum.
