I was never a big Grateful Dead fan. I mean I liked a lot of their music but I never really understood the big thing with the dreads and the buses and all of that. I stopped at a rest area in Oregon once and there was a group that had stopped to use the facilities or maybe bathe in the sink. Come to think of it they did not look bathed. My first thought was, they looked like they crawled out from under a rock.
Anyway, tonight I was listening to Pandora and I heard the song Touch of Grey and something struck me. I had never really listened to the lyrics. What a closed minded pompous ass I am. I guess when you start getting grey you take notice of such things. I mean after all, there is only this one life, right? Could this be the anthem for the future of our country?
Here is the link to the lyrics: Touch of Grey It comes with the music video. Enjoy!
I worked for Jerry Garcia at a little radio station in Redway called KERG. Like you, I was never a big fan — I didn’t even know Garcia was a founder of the Dead. Then I had to deal with all the Dead Heads crashing at the station on the floor and doing other strange stuff normall not done in public. “Touch of Grey,” is possibly the old song of their’s I truly understand — who knows — maybe I get it because it was also their only commercial hit.
That is crazy Tom! Love your blog too!
